Clapham Black History tour

Woodcut of Prince Naimbanna on Clapham Common, c.1792

This one and a half hour walk from Clapham Common tube station to St Paul's church, Rectory Grove takes us back to the early 1800s and the campaigns in favour of and against the slave trade. Even thoughWilliam Wilberforce and the Clapham Sect were leading lights in the abolitionist movement, a small but influential Black community was also present in Clapham as students of the African Academy.
